Bill Justus enjoys stepping up his role on Tennessee Vols radio broadcasts

When Bill Justus moved from Knoxville to Nashville after accepting a job with Converse in 1969 he never expected to be a part of the Tennessee basketball program again.

It took several decades, but Justus eventually rejoined the Vols. Sort of.

He serves as the fill-in color analyst on the Vol Radio Network.

Justus has been the backup for several years, but he is being called on more often these days because regular analyst Bert Bertelkamp is taking more time off to watch his son Hank, who is a junior on the Knoxville Catholic basketball team.

Justus joined Bob Kesling on the broadcast for the Vols’ game at Vanderbilt (Jan. 9) and at Missouri (Jan. 17) and will work the game against Kentucky at Rupp Arena on Tuesday.

“It’s terrific and I love it,” Justus said. “I get to be around a different generation of players and find out what they’re like. Being around them is fun. They’re very receptive. They don’t know the history as far back as I go, but they’re a great group of guys.”
