Accomplishments and Awards

  • 2011 Inductee into the Knoxville Chapter of the American Advertising Federation Hall of Fame.
  • Developed many successful sales managers in the radio industry. At one point, there were nine sales managers in Birmingham that I had hired, trained or managed, helping them to grow into their respective positions. I feel that this is my greatest accomplishment.
  • Selected one of two sales trainers to facilitate Customer Focused Selling (CFS) to Arbitron’s Radio Sales and Services sales team, 2000-2001.
  • Ended my term as President of The Birmingham Advertising Club (now called Birmingham Advertising Federation) with a budget surplus of approximately $20,000 at the end of my term. When installed as president, the organization was in debt several thousands of dollars.
  • Named “President of the Year” by The American Advertising Federation as President of The Birmingham Ad Club 1995.
  • Presided over Birmingham Ad Club during the start of its “Club of the Year” string of awards. I provided the outline and formula for the first winning club achievement awards during my year as President-Elect.
  • Elected President of the Birmingham Ad Club. (Club consisted of 300+ members). 1994- 1995.
  • Built and maintained an extremely successful sales structure at Dick Broadcasting, while dealing with three format changes. Obtained “share multiples” or “power ratios” over the Miller-Kaplan national format averages for each format during my tenure. 1995 – 1998.
  • Named to Birmingham Business Journal’s “Top 40 Under 40” 1995.
  • Exceeded my department budget at WZZK/WODL every year from 1988 – 1994.(1988- 102%, 1989- 101%, 1990- 107%, 1991- 104%, 1992- 104%, 1993- 110%, 1994- 110%, 1994- 104%).
  • Increased the national revenue share for WZZK from 31.2% to 38.3%, July 1985 -December 1987.
  • Named Vice-President, Birmingham Radio Group, 1987-1989.
  • Promoted into sales management at age 25 as National Sales Manager of WZZK, 1985.
  • Accredited as a CRMC (Certified Radio Marketing Consultant) by the Radio Advertising Bureau, 1985.
  • Dean’s List while in college- six times, University of Alabama, Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, 1980-82 and Fall 2002.
  • Alpha Epsilon Rho, National Broadcasting Society, University of Alabama 1981.
  • Quoted in The Birmingham News, The Birmingham Business Journal, The Birmingham Weekly, Media Week and Radio Ink magazines and have have appeared on the Finebaum Radio Network regarding issues pertaining to the media, marketing, and sales.
